Outstanding Staff Recognised At Seventh Tendring Stars Awards

Outstanding employees from across Tendring District Council (TDC) were recognised at the authority’s seventh staff awards, Tendring Stars, last month (February 2024).

Winners and runners-up were announced at the awards ceremony, held in the Princes Theatre, and presented with trophies and certificates across a number of categories.

Among the new categories this year was a Saving Lives award, given to four groups of staff who actively saved people’s lives: through CPR in two cases at leisure centres; to saving a woman who fell into the sea; and an intervention for a person attempting to take their own life.

Long service awards were also presented to 17 people who have reached the milestone of 30, 35 and, in one case, 40 years’ employment at TDC.

Ian Davidson, TDC Chief Executive, said he was impressed – but not surprised – by the level and quality of nominations.

“It is testament to the all-round amazing people we have working across the council that we had so many worthy nominations, let alone incredible winners and runners-up for this year’s Stars Awards,” Ian said.

“These awards highlight just a small amount of the outstanding work that goes on both on the frontline and behind the scenes, and I am proud of everyone who makes a difference for our residents; as well as the exemplary dedication of those who have worked with us for so many years.

“I would like to commend all those who received nominations, and celebrate those who shone brightest to become finalists this year – it has been an absolute pleasure to hear about everyone’s amazing contributions, and we are extremely grateful to you all.

“As well as my congratulations to all of the finalists, I’d like to give my thanks to the Stars Awards organisers and the judging panel.”

Two of the awards – Young Achiever and Unsung Hero – were voted on by TDC staff, while the winners and runners-up of the other categories were selected by a judging panel.

Entertainment came from TDC’s very own house band, 10DC, made up of Amy Henshaw, Gary Guiver, Jamie Timms, Mike Carran and Sean Biswell.

Award winners this year also each received a prize, donated by local businesses; prize sponsors were: Surya Hotels; Realms; Milsom Hotels and Restaurants; Clacton Aero Club; Lifehouse spa and hotel; East Coast Distillery; and Frinton Golf Club.

Cakes were provided by Rainy Bakes – based at the council’s Sunspot development in Jaywick Sands – while trophies came from Colchester Trophies and photography by Steve Brading Photography.
